2024 Irishfest La Crosse Fiddle Competition

Open to all string instruments
Fiddle Competition Categories:
1. Adult/open
Adult competitors must be age of 18 or over.
The performance must not exceed 6 minutes.
Performance must include 3 different types of tunes of the following options: reel, jig, polka, hornpipe, slide or a slow tune (air, waltz, etc.), from memory.
2. Teen
Teen competitors must be between the ages of 13 and 17.
The performance must not exceed 6 minutes.
Performance must include 3 different types of tunes of the following options: reel, jig, polka, hornpipe, slide or a slow tune (air, waltz, etc.), from memory.
3. Junior
Competitors in the Junior category must be age 12 or under.
The performance must not exceed 6 minutes.
Performance must include 3 different types of tunes of the following options: reel, jig, polka, hornpipe, slide or a slow tune (air, waltz, etc.), from memory.
NOTES
Contestants will be judged on technique (tone quality, rhythm, intonation), appropriateness of fiddling style (tempo, bowing and ornamentation), and stage presence. Level of difficulty will also be factored in the scoring by the judges. Performance should include contrasting styles and tempos. Contestants are encouraged to review the judge comment sheet ahead of time to prepare accordingly.
Participants are requested to learn the Kerry Polka for all to perform together
Prizes:
1st place winners in each category will compete in a finale event for a chance to win a $2000 Eastman Strings Fiddle donated by SSE Music. The remaining two participants will receive a $75 cash prize from Irishfest La Crosse. Participants may repeat a previous song or play a new selection.
All participants will receive a $10 gift card from SSE Music.
2nd place winners in each category will receive $50 gift certificate from SSE Music
3rd place winners in each category will receive $25 gift certificate from SSE Music
